Shadwell Arabian Stallion NO RISK AL MAURY sired his first Group 1 winner on Thursday 1st February at Meydan, in the UAE.

The Shadwell-bred five-year-old colt BARNAMAJ won the Al Maktoum Challenge Round 2 (Gr.1 PA) over 2200m on the dirt track of Meydan. It was his second start in the UAE, after the first round of the Al Maktoum Challenge (Gr.1 PA) in January when he lost by a neck to multiple Group 1 winner PADDY’S DAY. They faced each other again on Thursday and BARNAMAJ prevailed by a head. BARNAMAJ is trained by Ali Al Rayhi and was ridden on the day by Jim Crowley.

BARNAMAJ was born in France, at Haras de Saint Faust, out of a Shadwell-bred mare. His dam, TASHREEFAT (by BENGALI D’ALBRET), was trained by Gill Duffield. She won four races and finished second in the Liwa Oasis (Gr.1 PA) and third in the Al Ruwais (Gr.3 PA), twice. She has produced five winners from five foals of racing age, including MURAAQIB (MUNJIZ), winner of six Group 1 PA races.

BARNAMAJ is from the first crop of his sire NO RISK AL MAURY. He started his racing career in France, with trainer François Rohaut. He won his first race at three, the Prix Flipper in Mont-de-Marsan. Later that year, he finished third in the Group 2 PA French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge – Poulains in Toulouse. At four, he finished second in the Jebel Ali Racecourse Za’abeel International Stakes (Gr.1 PA) at Newbury and in the French Arabian Breeders’ Challenge Sprint (Gr.2 PA) in Toulouse. He joined UAE-based trainer Ali Al Rayhi last December.

Shadwell Stud’s director Richard Lancaster commented: “NO RISK AL MAURY was a remarkable racehorse and is proving himself as an outstanding sire. We are very pleased to have bred his first Group 1 winner, out of a homebred mare by a Shadwell stallion, BENGALI D’ALBRET.

“It is a great success for HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s breeding operation. We would like to thank Ali Al Rayhi and Jim Crowley who have done a great job with the horse since he arrived in the UAE, but also François Rohaut who has trained him for two years in France and helped him reach Group level.”

NO RISK AL MAURY was the leading Arabian racehorse in Europe and the Middle East with a rating of 128 in 2011. Trained by Gill Duffield, he won 17 races in Europe and UAE including 6 Group 1 races, from 4 to 9, and was the first horse to win at Meydan Racecourse. He has produced many winners worldwide including AICHA DE MONLAU (Gr.3 PA in France), DARIUS DU PAON (Gr.3 PA in Abu Dhabi), RB HOT RISK (Gr.3 in the USA), RISK DE RIOLAT (Listed PA in Morocco), AL KABEER (2nd in Gr.3 PA in Qatar).

Born in France in 2002, by KESBEROY and out of NECTARINE AL MAURY, NO RISK AL MAURY is a full-brother to the Group winners NOUBA AL MAURY (Hatta International Stakes, Gr.1), NEVADOUR AL MAURY (Coupe d’Europe des Chevaux Arabes, Gr.1) and NACREE AL MAURY (Prix Damas, Gr.3). His second dam is NEVADOUR, a remarkable broodmare whose descendants are amongst the elite of Arabian racehorses and sires such as DAHESS, BIBI DE CARRERE, KAOLINO, KANDAR DU FALGAS, NIVOUR DE CARDONNE, RUBIS DE CARRERE, NEZ D’OR, NOREEN, SIVIT AL MAURY, SYLVINE AL MAURY…

NO RISK AL MAURY stands at Haras de Saint Faust (France) and is available for natural cover and artificial insemination with frozen semen.
